The Competing Pipers Association have announced they are to honour the memory of long time member and renowned piping steward and organiser Jimmie McGregor by running an annual educational seminar in his name. The first of these will be on Sunday the 6th May from 1-5 pm, in the Scots Guards Club in Edinburgh. The topic will be piobaireachd – and the focus will be on how judges perform their important and difficult task – namely sorting out the most musical performance at a competition. John Wilson and Jack Taylor will lead the session. A selection of players will play tunes and an open discussion, where all can feed back (including the audience) will lead to a highly interactive and enjoyable session. There will be a bar and a snack lunch available. The event will be recorded and made available to all CPA members throughout the world on the internet.

Kieron Cooney: Hi from he Isle ofWight. After a successful inaugural gathering last year we are holding our second gathering 19th August this year. In particular we are planning a piping experience station (Piping It Up) within the ‘Highland Village’ that we are creating. We had over 3000 visitors last year and expect more in 2012. The experience station is to provide insight and practical hands-on experience into what goes into playing bagpipes and the associated regalia experience.
