HOLLYWOOD ON THE TEVERE
“Cinecittà has a special magic because of all the great films that have been made there.”
Martin Scorsese, Director
While the city of Rome is rife with cinematic sights, Cinecittà Studios has recreated iconic settings for many blockbuster films. Spend the last night of your Roman Holiday in “Ancient Rome” on a movie-ready set that will make you feel like a star!
Ancient Rome at the time of the Caesars is the setting for our unforgettable farewell dinner, extraordinarily brought to life on an active movie set at Cinecittà Studios. The largest film studio in Europe, Cinecittà has given birth to thousands of star-studded productions by filmmakers such as Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Mel Gibson and Anthony Minghella, as well as many Italian directors like Federico Fellini and Roberto Rossellini, to name just a few. Think classics like Roman Holiday, Ben Hur, The Agony and the Ecstasy, Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, La Dolce Vita, The Life Aquatic... the HBO series Rome... and so many others, and you’ll get a hint of the spectacular sets that transport you to another layer of time here.
The Ancient Rome movie set at Cinecittà is the final WOW of this event. You can just imagine the crowds of Romans in their togas walking the streets, conversing, living as if they were alive today. Along with the many other movie-worthy sets of Rome you will explore, layer by layer, on this event – the Spanish Steps, steps from your hotel on Via Veneto, where Audrey Hepburn first met Gregory Peck on their Roman Holiday, Trevi Fountain, filmed in recurring roles from La Dolce Vita to Three Coins in a Fountain, and of course, the Colosseum, St. Peter’s and the Pantheon, sights that may turn up in your own film reels as you explore them with our insider experts – our final evening really brings the history of the city together in one place.
Tauck’s Roman Holiday at Cinecittà promises to be a festive celebration of the movies’ lasting love affair with the Eternal City – and coincidentally it’s also the place where Elizabeth Taylor first met the great love of her life, Richard Burton, while filming Cleopatra – as we declare “it’s a wrap” and say arriverderci Roma on a movie set that is reserved exclusively for Tauck.
