Itʼs amazing how quickly a year can pass but here we are again at the premier event for video games awards in the UK.

The venue might be different, but the sentiment remains the same: “to celebrate success stories” within the industry, and Nintendo are proud to be associated with the Awards and in particular to once again be sponsoring the retail category.

In my foreword last year, I referred to 2010 as being an ʻincrediblyʼ tough year and yet little did we know that it would be eclipsed by the most challenging time this industry has perhaps ever experienced. To use a Star Wars analogy, I have felt a ʻdisturbance in the forceʼ, prompting retail, publishers and format holders to galvanise and reach out for greater collaboration, something that embodies all that is great about the people who work in our industry. Looking ahead, I share the popular view that this yearʼs E3 will be the catalyst for change; an opportunity to get our mojo back and trust that the excitement and confidence will once again return for 2012.

Meanwhile, on behalf of Nintendo, I want to thank all our customers for remaining supportive throughout 2011 and I wish everyone shortlisted for an award tonight the very best of luck.
