NOELLA PIO KIVLEHAN Building on the momentum of the Olympic Games is crucial if London is to avoid repeating the legacy mistakes made by Sydney 12 years ago. Sports minister Hugh Robertson told
EGTV: “The mistake Sydney made after its Games was to pull the shutters down quickly. It is crucial that we don’t let the momentum of the Games run away from us. We are in a gold medal- winning position, but there is still a lot to do in the next three months but we are ahead in terms of budge.” Robertson was also on a panel,
chaired this morning by Estates Gazette editor Damian Wild, which included OPLC chair Baroness Margaret Ford, Lend Lease’s Kevin Chapman and Savills director Dominic Grace. On the timescale for creating the
legacy, Ford told the audience: “This will be a 20-year build. What we are not going to do is do this quickly. We are going to do it well.” Ford said that an announcement for a preferred residential developer for the site would be made within the next month.
