Small trunk On a return home Colorado from Eastern South Dakota one summer, the left front tire of my two-seater 2004 Mazda Miata blew out at 75 mph. The car did not swerve, and I safely deceler- ated. I tried placing the damaged tire into the truck, but it didn’t fi t, so I put it in the passenger seat. Why didn’t Mazda make the wheel well large enough to accommodate the blown tire? Buyer beware! —E. Boortz, Fort Collins

Colorado’s fi rst road trip My wife and I read the article “Colorado’s First Road Trip” (January- February, p. 32-36) and were elated! Mr. Robert Temple, whom the author Clay Latimer spoke of, is in fact my great grandfather. The car was not abandoned in Victor, as your article reported, but was

sold to a doctor in Victor. A fi re that engulfed the doctor’s offi ce may have destroyed the car. Temple developed many pneumatic mining tools, and moved back to

England to aid in the war effort during WWI. He is buried in Denver. —J. Culp, Lakewood

Crazy, stupid … blessing Got my AAA membership as a graduation gift (college) and thought it was a crazy and stupid gift, but realized after a couple of situations where I used AAA membership that it was a blessing. Thanks for such great service and advocacy. —Anonymous

Tow for tire damage? I have a AAA Plus membership which authorizes a 100-mile tow. My car (2007 Mazda MX-5) is not equipped with a spare tire. It has a fl at tire repair kit (liquid sealant and battery operated compressor) that is capable of repairing some fl at tire damage, but not major tire damage such as a sidewall cut. If I have a fl at tire with major damage that I cannot fi x on the road, will my Plus membership cover up to a 100-mile tow for the major tire damage? —R. Blatter, Colorado Springs

Editor’s note: Yes. Your Plus membership entitles you to a 100-mile tow to the destination of your choice, including a tire repair facility.

Editor’s note: To meet new govern- ment fuel effi ciency standards some vehicle manufactures are omitting heavy spare tires and equipping new vehicles with an emergency sealant and infl ator kit or tires that if dam- aged can run reasonable distances without air. Lookin’ good Thank you for combining attraction, hotel and restaurant listings in the new TourBooks! I took a road trip this summer from Denver to Orange, Calif., with stopovers in Utah and Las Vegas, and used the TourBooks extensively. Every time I had to fl ip, I wished all the information for each city was in one place. I mentioned this on a follow-up survey I received, and apparently other members did as well. Thank you for your respon- siveness to member feedback.

Now I’m really excited for next year’s road trip! —M. Singer, Centennial
