Extended range of miniature enclosures for personal electronics
OKW have added more versions and accessories to their ‘MINITEC’ range of miniature enclosures. These multi-coloured housings are designed for personal electronic devices which are carried in the hand, on a key ring, wrist strap, or lanyard. Typical applications include medical devices, personal safety, detection, monitoring, emergency call, audio, alarm, and remote control electronics.
OKW have added more case sizes and a wider selection of intermediate rings in response to customer demand. The new intermediate rings include wider versions for increased case height, plain versions without eyelets for hand held only devices, and a new ring with an aperture in the end for fitting a USB connector. The ‘MINITEC’ range consists of two basic designs: ‘EDGE’ - rectangular style cases and ‘DROP’ - droplet style cases. There are now eight individual cases sizes with dimensions ranging from 51 x 32 x 13 mm to 84 x 53 x 19 mm. Each case consists of a top part, bottom part and a soft intermediate ring. The top and bottom parts are moulded in off-white or lava grey ABS, or black infra-red transparent PMMA (UL 94 HB). The recessed top part is designed for locating a membrane keypad or product label. The ‘EDGE’ style is also offered with a smooth top for fitting rubber keypads etc. Location bosses are moulded in the bottom parts for mounting PCBs and components, and the cases are assembled using a single self-tapping fixing screw.
The intermediate rings are moulded in soft touch TPE in four standard colours: volcano grey, orange, lime green and bright blue. The rings

Features include screwless assembly via four soft grip corners, battery compartment lid with retaining screw, optional retaining screws for added security and recessed lid and base for membrane keypads or overlays. Internal screw pillars in lid and base facilitate mounting of PCBs while optional EPDM gasket provides IP65 seal. Available in two sizes – 25 and 35mm high – the CamdenBoss 33 series Grip Cases are moulded in black or light grey high impact ABS. TPE coated polypropylene soft grip corners can be supplied in a range of standard colours including blue, green, red, orange, black, yellow and grey.
The CamdenBoss 45 series Palm Cases have been ergonomically designed and offer a range of handheld enclosures with integrated battery compartments and rubber boot options. Moulded in black UL94-5VA flame retardant ABS (ivory available to order), the 45 series features lid mounted by four self-tapping screws, removable end panels for machining and ease of access, sliding battery compartment lid options for AA or 9V PP3 batteries with contacts/strap included, textured lid versions for consistent all-over surface finish, smooth recess lid version for membrane keypads or overlays and recess in base for product labels. PCB pillars are moulded into lid and base with screws available to order. Three sizes are available measuring 117.5 x 72.5 x 25.5mm, 139.5 x 82.5 x 26mm and 165 x 82.5 x 26mm. Plain versions without battery compartment are available to special order. Also available in the CamdenBoss handheld
enclosure range is a wide variety of keyfob enclosures dedicated to RF activated mobile applications such as handheld transmitters and manual control units.
Moulded in ABS, theses include the 2955-20
series round keyfobs that feature snap-fit assembly of lid and base, 1 to 5 rubber buttons with contact pads, enclosed battery compartment for coin cells and eyelet for key- ring and the ergonomically shaped ABS 2955-40 series keyfobs which feature 1 to 5 rubber buttons with the addition of a clear silicone LED window, separate enclosed battery compartment for coin cells and eyelet for key-ring. The 2956 and 2957 series Eco keyfob cases
are low cost solutions. The 2956 is a black ABS moulded case without buttons featuring small eyelet for key-ring and label recess in lid while the 2957 features up to three buttons – one central or one to three plastic buttons – and separate battery compartment for coin cells in base.
In addition the CamdenBoss 50 series Dura
boxes are aluminium extruded boxes with plastic end caps for handheld, desk or wall mounted applications. Features include integral PCB mounting rails, front and rear plastic caps retained by M3 screws with plastic screw covers for improved appearance, recesses in lid and base for membrane keypads or overlays and textured sides for enhanced grip. Options include battery compartments and holders and neoprene gaskets for IP65 seal. The devices are suitable for a wide range of applications from remote controllers to housing external hard drives and instrumentation.

Rittal offers energy efficient cooling using ambient air
New from enclosure specialist Schroff is the ULTRX range of fibreglass wall-mount enclosures, which are designed to provide long-life protection for electronics or electrical equipment in potentially corrosive environments. Manufactured by Hoffman, one of Schroff’s sister companies within the Pentair Technical Products Group, the enclosures are fabricated from compression-moulded fibreglass material offering excellent temperature, chemical and impact resistance, with a seamless foam-in-place gasket to ensure an IP66-rated water-tight and dust-tight seal.
These versatile enclosures can be turned
through 180 degrees to allow either left or right hinging, and they are available with either solid doors or an impact-resistant polycarbonate window. Featuring a hinge design that allows an opening angle of up to 270 degrees, the doors

incorporate a stainless-steel quarter-turn latch, which can be optionally upgraded to a keylocking or padlocking handle for added security.
Moulded-in bosses and integral mounting rails
are provided for attaching internal panels, and the ULTRX range also offers accessories such as panel bracket kits, swing-out panels, rack- mounting angles, swing frames, hole seals, door stop kits and mounting bracket kits. Available in nine different sizes from 513 x 413 x 228mm to 1025 x 825 x 329mm, the ULTRX enclosures carry a number of international approvals, including UL 508A, CSA C22.2 No. 94, and NEMA Types 3, 3R, 4, 4X, 12 and 13. They also meet the new NEMA Type 3RX requirements.

Rittal has continued to expand their range of TopTherm fan and filter units with a 230V AC 900m3/h variant. The entire range of fan and filter units utilise a diagonal fan to provide improved performance against increased static pressure difference. In turn, this offers greater energy efficiency and a more constant air throughput, effectively minimising the occurrence of hot spots. The new product is also fitted with an electronically commutated (EC) motor to further reduce power consumption. Energy efficiency of the TopTherm fan and filter units fitted with single-phase AC motors may be improved in operation by the addition of either a simple thermostat or more sophisticated fan speed control. Rittal’s speed controller adjusts the speed of the fan in accordance with the demand for cooling, reducing noise and energy consumption when cooling is not required. It also incorporates a fault alarm activated in the event of the temperature of the air inside the enclosure rising above a predetermined level, an interruption in the supply to the fan, a sensor short-circuit, or a failure in the supply to the controller itself. Not only does this device increase maintenance intervals and reduce energy consumption, it also alerts users to potential problems.
Most of the existing range of TopTherm fan and filter units are available with 24V DC motors,
which exhibit a significant reduction in power consumption over the 230V AC and 115V AC motor variants.
