SKATING WITH THE STARS GALA SET APRIL 2 Figure Skating in Harlem wants you to spend the evening skating underneath the stars —
all for a great cause. The New York City–based nonprofit organization will host its annual Skating with the Stars Gala on Monday, April 2, at Wollman Rink in Central Park. Three ladies will be honored at this year’s gala — fashion designer (and former figure skater) Vera Wang, artist and en- trepreneur Rhonda Ross and Figure Skating in Harlem patron Ellen Lowey. An addition to the 2012 event is the inaugural gala dinner, where guests will have the
opportunity to dine with celebrities and well-known figure skaters, such as Olympic champion Evan Lysacek, 2011 World champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White, and two-time U.S. champion Alissa Czisny. Proceeds from the Skating with the Stars Gala will benefit Figure Skating in Harlem,
HQ PROFILE: JOSH ELLIS As the new web content coordinator,
my main job to make sure that the U.S. Fig- ure Skating website,
www.USFSA.org, is as up-to-date as possible. Among other things, I am in charge of both the U.S. Figure Skat- ing Facebook and Twitter pages as well as the new SKATING magazine blog. What do you like to do in your spare
time? Sports have always been a passion of mine and I spend a great deal of my spare time following the many teams I sup- port. I am an avid fan of all of Philadel- phia’s sports teams and (my hometown) the Ohio State Buckeyes, and I am a die-hard supporter of Arsenal Football Club. What would people be surprised to
know about you? During my time as a stu- dent at The Ohio State University, I had the privilege of broadcasting four national championship games (all losses), and during my time as a radio broadcaster in Minor League Baseball, I called a South Atlantic League Championship for the Lakewood BlueClaws in 2009. What do you cherish the most? The
support I have received from my family, friends and my girlfriend, Lauren, over the past few years. I have lived in five states in the past five years to pursue my career and I couldn’t have done it without their support. What’s the favorite part of the job?
Trying to help implement and execute new ideas that help us connect with our fans more than ever before. I also enjoy helping cover events and supporting Team USA. What’s your ideal vacation? Without a
doubt, if I could take a trip anywhere it would be to the Emirates Stadium in London to watch Arsenal triumph against Tottenham in a North London derby. Tell us about your family. I have a large family that consists of my parents, Barbara and Barnett; my twin brother Gavin, who I look nothing like; my sister, Heather; my brother, Michael; my stepmom, Janet; and my stepbrothers, Sam, Eli and Ryen.
