Newquay is a great place to stay and explore the rest of Cornwall. from Land’s End to the Eden Project everywhere is easy to get to and many attractions and towns are accessible by bus and train.
Villages Crantock, Holywell and Cubert are villages a stones throw from the coast and each with beaches, village inns, shops and churches to explore. Further inland you enter Lappa Valley and St Newlyn East – once an important mining area but now a lush green valley bordered by the village and the National Trust house and gardens at Trerice.
Within a few miles you’ll discover Mitchell, with its 16th century coaching inn and acres of Cornish grown pick your own fruit. Then Summercourt, home to Dairyland Farm World and St Columb Major - one of only two places where the ancient Cornish tradition of hurling can still be seen.

Newquay & the surrounding area
Coast Take the scenic coast road north and discover Porth Beach and Island – home to prehistoric earthworks and where you’ll find one of Cornwall’s finest cliff top blow holes. At low tide you can walk to Whipsiderry Beach with its magnificent Cathedral, Concert, Boulder and Fern caves. Always check the tide times before visiting. Back on the road and Watergate Bay comes into view – time
for refreshments on the beach or perhaps some action on the golden sands. The enigmatic Bedruthan Steps are always worth a visit –
giant stacks of granite towering out of the Atlantic. Look out for the cliff top tea rooms, and then on to Mawgan Porth (see page 10 & 11), a delightful bay with golden sands, local pub, pitch and putt, bowling alley and seaside fun for everyone. One more stop on this trip, St Mawgan Village – a real delight with a proper village green and play area, craft shops Bonzai Japanese gardens and a local village pub.
