Planning Your Holiday

Visitors to the exciting and multi-faceted State of Colorado benefi t from the following advanced planning

Getting There and Around

Flying into Denver is by far the most convenient way to start your Colorado holiday as the superb, modern Denver International Airport is served by non-stop fl ights from a number of international cities, as well as from cities throughout the USA. T e terminal’s Ground

Transportation Information Center will provide up-to-date information about public bus transportation, taxis, shuttles, and limousines to downtown, area hotels and to some of the mountain resorts. T ere are also connecting fl ights to various Colorado regional airports. You don’t need to rent a car to get

around Denver – it’s an extremely walkable city with effi cient public transportation. For other areas, rent a vehicle as part of a fl y/drive package or at an airport. Ideally it should have four-wheel-drive for navigating mountain passes. For more information visit: www.fl ydenver.com

Colorado’s Climate Colorado is blessed with an average

of 300 days of sunshine a year, which means you’ll enjoy blue skies not only in the summer, when daytime temperatures are typically 21°C to 25°C – and sometimes hotter in the cities – but year-round.

However, even in the summer

you should pack a sweater or light jacket, especially if you’re visiting the mountains, as evenings can be chilly and afternoon thunderstorms are not unusual. In September and October, when the aspens turn a stunning golden colour, or in the spring when the landscape is also lovely, you can fi nd some phenomenal discounts and deals – and fewer crowds – in the ski resort towns. Winters are much milder in Colorado than in other parts of the USA, but you’ll still want to pack winter clothing.

Staying Healthy

At Colorado’s high altitude, the air is thinner and the sun is strong. To help your body adjust, take only moderate exercise for a couple of days after you arrive, drink plenty of water and limit your intake of dehydrating caff eine and alcohol. Apply sunscreen to all exposed areas daily, even if there is cloud cover, and pack quality sunglasses, lip balm with SPF and, for any electrical appliances you are bringing, an adapter/converter kit (US electrical current is 120 volts; plugs have two fl at-blades).
