MRes in Social Anthropology MRes in Social Anthropology and Amerindian Studies Eight months of taught courses, a written examination, plus a further four months preparing a 12,000-word dissertation. 180 credits, including dissertation.
The MRes aims to provide a firmfoundation in the methods and methodologies of Social Anthropology and the Human Sciences, to serve as a basis for knowledgeable and skilled research in Social Anthropology. A first degree of good standing in, or including Social Anthropology, is the usual prerequisite. You are taught in dedicated postgraduate classes throughout.
Entrance Requirements: A good degree with Honours from a UK university or its equivalent. Programme Duration: One year Aim of Programme:The overall aim is to foster a critical outlook and the creative application of knowledge and skills.
Programme Content: The general requirements for the MRes are 180 credits over a period of one year or part-time equivalent. Each generic course module isworth 15 credits. Each subject-specific module isworth 30 credits, with the exception of SA5099 (dissertation), which isworth 60 credits. Teaching is carried out by means of lectures to subject-specific and generic courses, complemented by seminars, supervisions and reading groups. Students are expected to take an active part in classes, which provide the opportunity for practicalwork and formative assessment.
