than $3 million in contri- butions. Her donor list includes Hollywood A-list- ers like Barbra Streisand. And by the end of 2011, spe- cial interest groups like the League of Women Voters had unleashed more than $3 million in negative ads. Warren herself had run more than $1 million worth of ads to introduce herself to voters.

legalized same-sex marriage in the state is settled and he does not seek to overturn it. He opposes a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. He also said Roe v. Wade is settled law. In December, he joined


a handful of Republicans who broke rank and voted to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell,” the ban on openly gay


military personnel. Accord- ing to The Washington Post, Brown has voted with the majority of Republicans only 80 percent of the time. Christen Varley, an


early Brown supporter who heads the Greater Boston Tea Party, says she recently posted a picture of herself and the senator on her Face- book page and got deluged with hate mail from fellow tea partyers. Varley says she is disappointed with Brown

dubbed her “St. Elizabeth,” because the White House and party leaders essential- ly crowned her the nominee before the primary race had begun. Some Democrats are worried that she’s stak- ing out positions too far to the left, potentially turning off independents who will decide the race. “I think it’s going to be an


uphill climb for her,” says David Paleologos, director of Suffolk University poll- ing. Paleologos says Warren risks reminding voters too much of Democrat Martha Coakley, who infamously blew the race to Brown in the 2010 special election. “I think he’s going to be


tough to beat because he’s a brilliant politician,” says Margery Eagan, a liberal talk-show host and Boston Herald columnist. “I think there’s still a


love affair with Scott,” Fein- berg agrees.
