CASTINGS FOR COUNTRY (AND BACON)

Does this piece of art make you feel patriotic? Or maybe hungry?

Cast iron artwork is nothing new, but sculptor Alisa Toninato had a fresh take on the old practice. By re-imagining the common kitchen skillet, she has crafted “Made In America,” a cast iron map resembling the 48 contiguous United States.

The fi nished piece took a year and a half to complete, and now Toninato is using the patterns she developed to pour one-offs of the stately skillets. So if you’re indeed feeling patriotic, now you can celebrate by cooking up some burgers on a Texas-shaped griddle. 
