1. How did you get into footwear? T
ell us about your background and your current business? I think I was always destined to end up in the fashion business; it just took me a while to get here. After taking time out from work to look after my son I trained as an image consultant and also worked in the cosmetics and beauty industry. But, shoes have always been a passion and, as I got older, I found it harder and harder to find the type of shoes that worked for me. Just because you have moved on from wearing killer heels all day, it doesn’t mean you no longer want shoes that are both fun and funky. It was thinking about that which led me to open Doris and Daisy and I am delighted to say that my customers share my views.
2. Where are your premises located and how many people do you employ? Do you have a high turnover of staff? T
ell us about your
shop, the local area, your customers and their requirements? Doris and Daisy is in the pretty market town of Wimborne, in Dorset. I have three part-time staff and one full time trainee and a Saturday assistant. I have only been trading 18 months so am pleased to say staff turnover is not an issue. I have worked hard to create a boutique feel for my shop and I know my customers appreciate the effort I have gone to try and make shopping here as much fun as possible. Just as important is being able to offer my customers a wide choice. Many will have spent time checking what is available so they have a clear idea of what they want. Now I am starting to get regular customers from all over the county and also Hampshire and Wiltshire. Because Wimborne is on the tourist route I also get people coming in from all over the country and even ladies from areas like Richmond and Wimbledon in South London who are enjoying a day out.
