FROM THE EDITOR Best Sellers

W

elcome to all those independent footwear retailers who have agreed to join the Footwear Today Best Sellers panel. We had a fantastic response and I would like to say a big thank you to

everyone who kindly notified us of their star performers in November. The top selling brands are revealed in our new Best Sellers section on page 34 of this issue! If you missed the first month, but would like to take part, please

let me know and I'll add you to our list. Those who participate in Best Sellers are invited to email me each month informing us of their best selling brands, to be reported in the magazine. My email address is: ctaylor@datateam.co.uk or cheryltayloreditor@googlemail.com. We’re now working on the February edition, and asking retailers to

let us have notification of their top five best selling brands in December for Ladies, Men's and Children's, before the middle of January please. We would also like to receive your top 5 best sellers by category, i.e Ladies Comfort/Casuals, Ladies Formal, Ladies Fashion/Contemporary, Ladies Boots; Men's Comfort/Casuals and Men's Formal; Children's PreWalkers, Walkers and School Shoes. In return for your participation in Best Sellers, we will feature you

and your shop in our new Retailer of the Month page. The first independent footwear retailer to be featured in this section in January is the delightful Maria Leese, who runs Doris and Daisy in Wimborne, Dorset. Read more about Maria and her shop on page 32. If you’re looking for ladies boots, then don’t miss our fantastic line

up in Editor’s Choice (see page 28). We’ve selected a bevy of beautiful boots that will be flying off your shelves in 2012 and beyond, as well as a super selection of socks to help boost your coffers in the New Year, on page 22. Also, previews of the major shoe shows, including, Pure London and Moda, NEC Birmingham, GDS, Dusseldorf and Riva Del Garda, Italy. There’s lots more to amuse you in this our first edition of 2012, including a great yarn from intrepid footwear reporter, Henry Harington who claims to have come under fire on a recent assignment to visit a shoe factory in Libya. Henry maintains he was saved by his Clark’s Desert Trooper boots! A likely story, although there was evidence of sand in his boots? Finally, we want you to cast your vote in the Annual Footwear

Industry Awards: people can vote via www.footwearindustryawards.com/voting <http://www.footwearindustryawards.com/voting> - those who prefer to vote by post will find a mailer in this edition. We hope you will all play an active part and vote for those you believe are most deserving (including yourself, if you have been nominated) so that only the best win these awards (read more about the awards on page 26). Finally, a reminder - the Society of Shoe Fitters new 5 month

course starts March 1st 2012, and they are taking bookings now. It covers everything from Anatomy to Shoe Construction and Materials, Fitting, Gauges, Customer Care etc. and includes two practical workshops - 1 at the Society of Chiropodists & Podiatrists in London and the other at the DB Factory in Rushden, Northants. Read more on page 40. May I take this opportunity of wishing all our readers a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

Kind regards,
