EMI filtered circular connectors eliminate need for external filters


Weald Electronics, a UK manufacturer of electronic and electrical connectors specialising in high performance military circular connectors based on the Mil-C-5015 & Mil-C-26482 specification, has developed a new filtered connector designed for applications demanding EMI suppression.


The LMHF filter connector series is a version of


Weald’s established and successful MiL-C-26482 series 1 compliant LMH bayonet coupling circular connector and is designed to eliminate the need for external filters which means reduced weight and less assembly time and cost. These miniature bayonet connectors are compact, lightweight and come in a choice of three shell styles and nine shell sizes with contact configurations available from 6 to 55. They are offered in both fixed square flange or single hole mounting shell styles. The connector shells are made from aluminium alloy with a standard finish of olive drab chromate conversion over cadmium plate. They feature gold plated, non-removable solder or PCB type contacts. The inserts are polychloroprene, compounded


to a proprietary Weald Electronics specification which gives the connectors a very wide operating temperature range of - 55ºC to +125ºC.


The connectors incorporate multilayer ceramic


planar capacitor arrays to form the capacitive filtering elements. This enables a variety of filter values and configurations to be realised within a single filtered connector and, as a result, C, LC and Pi section filtering can all be accommodated within a single shell. Connection to the planar array – both for contact to pins and to the shell – is made via compliant mechanisms. High precision machined and photo-etched components provide excellent thermal and mechanical stress relief against conditions encountered in everyday use.

Molex has announced the availability of Mizu-P25 Miniature Waterproof Connectors. These devices are space saving 2.50mm (.098”) pitch connectors and the first and only sealed wire-to-wire system of their size in the market certified to the IP67 standard. Mizu-P25 connectors are available in a low-voltage version rated up to 125 volts and a high-voltage version rated up to 250 volts. “Designed in Japan, the word ‘mizu’ means water in Japanese, and the ‘P’ designates the Mizu-P25 connectors as dust-proof and water- proof,” says Yumi Fukui, global product manager, Molex. “The IP67 rating optimises mating and signal integrity in rugged environments, making the Mizu-P25 connector ideal for demanding performance requirements in motorcycles, vending machines, air conditioners, and any application packing more and more electronics into increasingly tighter spaces.” Mizu-P25 connectors incorporate colours coding of housings, low-insertion terminal design, and other design features to simplify operator assembly. A raised-body male terminal design provides polarisation to prevent accidental miss-mating. The integral watertight seal stopper


and positive locks ensure secure mating retention. A cap lock system provides low terminal insertion force and high sealing performance. The spring-beam design affords high pressure and small deflection in high- vibration applications.


“The space-saving Mizu-P25 system is helping Molex customers in a wide range of industries fit wire-to-wire solutions through smaller spaces, holes and hinges. Both the low and high voltage versions provide some of the smallest mated diameters of any connector system on the market today,” adds Fukui.

Harwin has expanded its EZ-BoardWare range of surface mount PCB hardware products with the introduction of a new SMT Board Socket which enables considerable cost savings. The EZ-BoardWare family of surface mount
