EA was the final chart champion of 2011 with FIFA 12. It was the second year in a row that ended with a FIFA
title at the top of the charts, and the fourth week at No.1 for FIFA 12– putting it on par with the series’ two previous titles.
FIFA’s sales continue to be driven by the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. It also dominates the PSP chart.
FIFAheld off a trio of big ‘3’ games – Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3and Just Dance 3– despite a 27 per cent drop in sales. In fact, the rest of the Top 10 is taken up by sequels.
BETHESDA took Christmas No.1 lin 2011 with Skyrim. It was the first time in eight years that a EA or Activision title didn’t top the charts at Christmas. Skyrim continues to sell, holding onto eighth place.
All titles in the Top 10 suffered a drop in sales as the post- Christmas comedown sets in. FIFA 12 saw the lowest dip with 27 per cent, while Just Dance 3 and Saints Row: The Thirdwere the worst affected with a 55 per cent fall in sales each.
Only one new release hit shelves during the final week of 2011 – NINTENDO’s Monopoly-like Boom Street – but it didn’t manage to claim a place in the Top 40. Or Wii’s Top 10.
The previous week’s new release, Star Wars: The Old Republic, fell 28 places having debuted at No.10. However, the title drew 1m registered players between its December 20th debut and Boxing Day, making it the fastest-growing MMO to date.
The New Year fitness blitz hasn’t quite kicked in yet, but there are still a number of workout titles present in the Top 40, including both Zumbagames and the return of EA Sports Active 2.
