Siga nuestra guía paso a paso para conocer el proceso de evaluación de los vinos y descubra cómo ganar una medalla o un trofeo en los Decanter World Wine Awards


Después de la apertura oficial de las inscripciones, los productores o minoristas envían sus vinos, junto con la información relativa a su elaboración, precio y disponibilidad de venta.


Al almacén de Decanter llegan cuatro botellas de cada vino, que se registran, categorizan y codifican por región, tipo y precio.


Los vinos se clasifican en grupos de 12 según la región, color, variedad de uva, estilo, cosecha y rango de precio, de tal forma que se brinden las mismas oportunidades a vinos de características similares. Los rangos de precios son:


A: hasta £5,99 B: de £6 a £7,99


C: de £8 a £9,99 D: de £10 a £14,99


Los jueces catan los vinos en función de su estilo y el rango de precios. Cada juez realiza la cata de forma individual y, posteriormente, compara sus notas con las de los demás jueces para alcanzar un consenso sobre la puntuación final del vino. Los vinos se clasifican de la siguiente manera:


Menos de 14,5 puntos de un total de 20: ningún premio


14,5–15,4/20: Mención especial 15,5–16,9/20: Bronce


Los vinos que han obtenido una medalla de Oro o de Plata vuelven a ser catados por los Presidentes de los jurados regionales para confirmar el premio.


Los vinos ganadores de una medalla de oro de cada región se clasifican en las categorías de precios Más de 10 £ o Menos de 10 £ y se vuelven a catar comparándolos con otros vinos ganadores de medallas de Oro de su misma variedad de uva o estilo.


Al mejor vino de cada variedad de uva o estilo de cada categoría de precio se le concede el Trofeo Regional.
