and inquire about the dog. I honestly think she wanted to adopt it . . . and I would have agreed. (In fact, I saw her reach for some Kleenex to dab at her eyes as we discussed the fate of the dog). But, turns out the Society is not accepting sur- render dogs as they are com- pletely full with animals. So they referred the old gentleman to three other rescue organi- zations . . . we tried to track the dog down . . . but were unsuc- cessful.

Still feel bad we weren't able to locate it. We would have given the dog a nice home, made sure the old gent got to see the dog, and I know Trixie and the dog would have played well together.

Problem is . . . there are a lot of stories like that out there. You might consider fostering or adopting a dog for Christmas. Would make a mighty nice Christmas for the dog. You as well. •••••

Escondido Humane Society is currently recruiting foster families and urging the community to open their hearts and homes to make a difference in some little, or big, dog's life by fostering a home- less pet during the holiday sea- son. The holiday foster care cam- paign with qualified foster families is designed to give a dog a break from shelter life and the opportu- nity to be in a loving home to enjoy holiday festivities.

"Many of us look forward to spending time with family and friends over the holidays, but it can be lonely for pets who don't yet have a family to share the sea- son with," said EHS Executive Director Sally Costello. "We're hoping this campaign will brighten the holidays for our animals and maybe even result in permanent homes."

Qualified foster families can take a dog home immediately and keep him or her through the New Year, unless the animal should get adopted in the meantime. The EHS provides the veterinary care, behavioral support, foster train- ing, and any supplies the animal may need - foster families provide the safe, caring home environ- ment.
