Carbon Disclosure Project 2011 – Italy 100 Report


When analyzing risk timeframes, a significant quota of identified risks is expected to take effect within the next five years (54%). A significant percentage (30%) of this is considered to be current.


Many companies identify risks, but also very significant opportunities. 27 (82%) of the 33 responding companies think that climate change can represent an opportunity for their business.


Analysis of responses on expected timeframes shows that opportunities are seen in most cases (44%) as being current or as coming into effect within the next five years.


Analysis of the possible impacts and likelihood of risks and opportunities highlights a similar trend, with most rated as likely (44% of risks and 43% of opportunities) and with high or medium high impact (35% of risks and 34% of opportunities).

Making decisions on investment in new technologies, design of operations and purchasing equipment are all extremely difficult amid regulatory uncertainty. Our ability to meet future requirements partially depends on decisions we make now for the medium and long term. The trick is to make high-impact choices that are suitable for a relatively wide range of regulatory scenarios. Making the wrong decisions may affect our ability to meet regulatory requirements, with financial and reputational implications.
