Note: To train this effectively you should always practice moving in different directions prior to hitting the ball. While the principle of the footwork is constant the implementation varies.

TIP 9: Ball Position COMMON ERROR: Hitting the ball too close to your body invariably leads to an inside out swing, hitting the ball too far back in your stance leads to a squeezed ball and hitting the ball too far ahead of your stance leads to a raised ball.
CRITICAL FACTOR: Most often the ball is moving prior to making contact therefore the skill is to time your movement such that your left heel hits the ground as the ball is approaching your premium hitting zone.
OUTCOMES: The ideal ball placement is to strike the ball in line with your left heel approximately a sticks length away from your heel. This requires you to bend your left knee in order to hit with an extending hitting action.
TIP 10: SHIFT THE BALL TO THE TARGET COMMON ERROR: Players running right to left with the ball getting cramped for space during the hitting action or players running left to right falling away from the target after contact.
CRITICAL FACTOR: Re-shaping the direction of the ball towards your intended target in the immediate timeframe prior to your right foot crossing behind your left foot.
OUTCOMES: At the critical moment everything is the same and a consistent hitting action will lead to a successful hitting action.
Note: Use your back-hand to re-shape the ball when running from right to left.
