ADAM COON, Continued from page 30 Coon has developed through USA Wrestling competitions, and

now has a Cadet World title to show for all his years of persever- ance and dedication in the spring and summer. “I started in the lower levels at the local and state tournaments,

and worked my way up and made the progression to the national tournaments,” he said. “USA Wrestling provides so many oppor- tunities and it has helped me develop so much as a wrestler. I had a huge goal to win Fargo. The first time I went to Fargo I was one win from placing. I kept working for that title and it was amazing to win it this year.” Adam Coon also set a school record in the shot put last sea-

son in track and field. He placed sixth at state as a sophomore. “Adam is driven to be the best that can he be in whatever he is

doing,” Dan Coon said. “He’s not afraid to put the extra time in to be successful. He’s a very hard worker. He is doing fantastic.” Adam also excels in the classroom, taking numerous honors classes. He has a 4.04 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. A number of Ivy League schools have shown interest in him. “I want to be an aerospace engineer,” Adam said. “I am taking

a lot of challenging classes, so I try to make sure my schedule is perfect. I make sure I stay on top of school and athletics. I make sure I hit the books when I get home from practice every night.” You can bet a few more memorable father-son moments are

on the horizon for Adam and Dan Coon. “It is a lot different coaching your son,” Dan said. “The wins are

very special, but the losses come twice as hard sometimes. I’ve gotten choked up after a few of his big matches. When he won his first state championship as a freshman, I didn’t say anything right after he won because I got a little choked up. I just gave him a hug. It’s been very rewarding to be in his corner and see his hard work pay off.”
