mBe 2011 Power Hour: in a man’s world

The mortgage market may have a dearth of women in senior media facing roles, but the bridging market has even fewer fair faces. This month we find out from the bridging girls what it’s like to be a girl in a man’s world

Is there an Imbalance between men and women In the brIdgIng Industry? Lucy Barrett: There always is in the finance sector, isn’t there? It is typically male dominated but I don’t think it’s for any particular reason and I don’t believe women are alienated in bridging. Kirsty Buchanan: It’s not especially noticeable either other than when you walk into a room and notice the ratio is out.

Anita Kirkbright: It depends what level you’re talking about. The higher the level the fewer women there are. I think it’s fair to say there are more women doing the admin, PR and marketing type roles and underwriting possibly in my experience. And the higher you go the more and more male dominated it becomes. Liz Syms: I have found people find it quite surprising to meet a female director in the broker sector.
