Farm, in California’s Buena Park, claims to be America’s oldest theme park. Its first attraction – Ghost Town – opened in 1940 to entertain diners queuing at its adjacent restaurant, becoming the first of six themed areas which Snoopy and his Peanuts pals call home. Universal Studios Hollywood


offers a mix of studio backlot tours with shows and rides based on movie and TV blockbusters. New from spring 2012 is Transformers: The Ride 3D, featuring 4K HD effects.


Kings Dominion, in Doswell, Virginia, where themed areas such as the African-flavoured Congo are enhanced by exhilarating coasters. New Jersey’s Six Flags Great Adventure has a boardwalk and pier-style attractions as well as thrill rides. Or try sibling parks Six Flags Great America in Illinois and Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio, where there is also a SeaWorld park. Dolly Parton’s Dollywood theme park in Tennessee features family entertainment and rides. Pennsylvania’s Hersheypark has modern coasters and chocolate- themed fun. There’s also Hershey’s Chocolate World, nearby Dorney Park & Wildwater, and Knoebels Amusement Park, which proclaims itself as America’s largest free- admission park, including parking, and has paid-for rides.
