Mississippi: from the Gulf Coast to the Delta, Mississippi has produced many of the world’s most renowned musical artists of all time. Tupelo, in the northeast, is where Elvis Presley was born, and Meridian, the current home of Peavey Electronics was once the home to 'The Father of Country Music' Jimmie Rodgers. The flat fertile area of the Mississippi Delta, along the river in the northwest, is rich in cotton, catfish and music. It's right here that more than100 blues musicians and singers began their careers. The Mississippi Blues Trail and
N
Mississippi Country Music Trail are unforgettable journeys into the land that birthed the blues and inspired the twang. From Elvis Presley to Faith Hill to Tammy Wynette to B.B. King to Muddy Waters, you won’t have to listen to your radio long to hear an artist who tuned their voices in Mississippi. Our state’s rich culture and heritage
can be found in the state's museums, historical homes, Civil War sites and landmarks. You can also see it reflected in the impact of the Mississippi River, in the unfolding of the Civil Rights Movement and in Mississippi's contributions to literature and fine arts and crafts. This is your opportunity to explore every bit of it. Mississippi’s legions of successful authors flourish in those spaces. What is it about Mississippi that has cultivated and encouraged active minds such as Tennessee Williams, William Faulkner, Eudora Welty, Richard Wright and John Grisham? Mississippi’s landscape and the dynamics of its demography compel its citizens and visitors to dream larger, painting broad, colourful strokes about the mysteries found in the dark soil, the red clay, the gritty music and the dusty gravel roads. Some of the fiercest battles of the
Civil War were fought in Mississippi. Many antebellum structures still stand, providing a glimpse of how luxuriously some Mississippians lived before the Civil War. When cotton was king, Mississippi was its kingdom. A stroll down the streets of Natchez or Vicksburg vividly highlights the beauty of the Old South just yards away from Ol’ Man River. Mississippi restaurants not only
