ON THE FLOOR Wax On… Again!

WAX ON, JUNK CLUB, SOUTHAMPTON, UK

Southampton’s awesome bass night Wax has found a new home after walking a tightrope since opening in 2009…

SINCE its conception on a wintry Wednesday night back in 2009, Wax has become the best place along the south coast to gain your weekly dose of d&b and dubstep. Born and raised in Southampton’s Rhino, Wax enjoyed the fi nest upbringing; a sumptuous soundsystem, clean enough to accentuate dubs with the lowest subs and tunes with the twinkliest tweets. Dark and consuming, Rhino was a physical metaphor for the music within, deep and decadent, with sharp stabs of colour created by its state-of- the-art LED ceiling. But it was never going to be plain sailing for this legendary night. Following a devastating blaze at Rhino, Wax’s residency seemingly came to an end in March 2010, but reopened in October 2010 at

the newly renovated club (renamed Audio, after its Brightonian sister), bringing Commix, Friction, DJ Marky, Skream and Loefah to its spanking interior at the launch. Plenty of other badboy bass names followed until early summer 2011, when news came that the club had been sold, bringing fears Wax would die forever.

But worry not, earlier this month it found a new home at the luxurious Junk Club, with the likes of Borgore, Andy C and David Rodigan tracing dub’s history – from reggae to UK bass – on its killer sonic set-up every week since 5th October. Next up, on Wednesday 26th October, Wax will deploy the devastating dnb of Hospital Records’s Logistics (26th) for more mid-week madness.
