Grundfos supports its dealers in their efforts to give back to their communities. When longtime dealer, Beinhower Brothers Drilling Co. (Johnstown, Ohio) president Brad Ulery sought the manufacturer’s support for a unique demonstration home in nearby Columbus, district sales manager Jim Cole responded with the only answer possi- ble: Of course. The donation request was for a Grundfos SmartFlo
SQE constant pressure system to be installed in the Universal Design Living Laboratory (UDLL), designed to help architects, builders and the public better under- stand how to create an accessible, comfortable living environment that enhances quality of life. The UDLL home incorporates unobtrusive universal design, resource- and energy-efficient green building methods, advanced automation technology, a healthy-home con- struction approach and feng shui design principles. The finest craftsmanship and state of the art products and ser- vices are incorporated. The gardens will feature wheel- chair-accessible pathways with raised flowerbeds and containers. Rosemarie Rossetti, Ph.D., a wheelchair user, and her
husband Mark Leder are building the UDLL home and will live in it. Rossetti has been using a wheelchair for the past 12 years, since a 7,000-pound tree fell on her while she was riding her bicycle, causing a spinal-cord injury that severely limits her mobility. While the UDLL will eventually become their home, Rosemarie and Mark’s vision reaches far beyond them. They embarked on the project to help the almost 54 mil- lion people in the United States with physical disabilities, as well as the 76 million aging boomers.
