INDUSTRY NEWS RIDGID® awards PHCC scholarships


ELYRIA, OHIO — RIDGID® has awarded four scholarships through the Educational Foundation of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors – National Association (PHCC) to students enrolled in plumbing-heating-cooling apprentice programs. PHCC administers the scholarship program, which is designed to attract new talent essential to the future of the plumbing and HVAC/R industry and is also responsible for selecting the award winners. Scholarship recipients will receive up to $1,000 in tuition assistance and $1,500 in RIDGID tools. “Development of tomorrow’s

workforce is a priority for us,” said Craig Sumner, director, RIDGID brand management. “Even with a weak economy, there are not enough qualified field technicians to handle the expected work levels in the coming years. These scholarships help to encourage more people to take advantage of those


opportunities we know are coming.” The 2011 scholarship recipients: • Edward Beresford of Cincinnati,


Ohio, is working full-time at PHCC member company Beresford Plumbing-Heating-Cooling and is enrolled in the Cincinnati Master Plumbers Association (CMPA) Plumbing Apprenticeship Program. • Ray Newton of San Diego, Calif.,


is working full-time at PHCC member company Bill Howe Inc. and is enrolled in the San Diego PHCC Plumbing Apprentice Program. • Levi Spoto of Streetsboro, Ohio,


is working full-time at PHCC member company The Plumbing Source and is enrolled in the Associated Builders and Contractors Construction Trades Apprenticeship Training Program. • Mark Veneziano of San Diego,


Calif., is working full-time at PHCC member company My Plumber, San Diego, and is enrolled in the San Diego PHCC Plumbing Apprentice Program.


PHCC past national president Fran Williams passes away


Fran Williams, who served as president of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors—National Association (PHCC), 1998 – 1999, passed away September 9 in Belmont, Mass., after a 16-month battle with leukemia. He was 73. Mr. Williams was a well-respected member and leader of PHCC. Besides


his role as national president, he served as national secretary from 1995 – 96, on the national board of directors as Zone 1 director from 1991 – 94 and as chairman of the PHCC Educational Foundation from 2007 – 2009. In 2005, he received the prestigious Col. George D. Scott Award for


meritorious service from PHCC—National Association, an award given for many years of service and unselfish devotion to the association and the industry Mr. Williams founded F.A. Williams Inc. in 1973. The company specializes in commercial and industrial plumbing and HVAC/R construction.


Zurn Industries continues investment in distribution centers
