Buying: Launch Pad Enter the Dragon
US fitness equipment brand Marcy has launched two new ranges bearing the name of 1970s martial arts and movie icon Bruce Lee.
B
ruce Lee, who died in 1973, remains one of the world’s most recognisable figures and yet his close relationship with the Marcy brand was relatively unknown until now.
Bruce Lee believed that many martial artists spent too much time on form and technique, and not enough on physical conditioning. Bruce began to combine three key aspects of ‘total fitness’ into his exercise routine: muscular strength, endurance and flexibility*.
Bruce constantly experimented with training routines to push the human body to its limits. He believed
Europe, is the man behind the new range, realising the potential of attaching such an iconic name to a quality range of fitness products.
Gilson says: “There are few names as well known internationally as Bruce Lee. He spans generations, languages, cultures and continents, and his image evokes memories of a true legend.
“We have worked closely with his family, who are very protective of the Bruce Lee name, particularly his
daughter Shannon, to create a range of training
equipment that does his great name justice.

the abdominal muscles were vitally important to the martial artist, as they co-ordinated all parts of the body and acted as the central
generator to control the body’s actions. His training brought together the key physical attributes of lightening fast reflexes, supreme flexibility and explosive power, which enabled him to perform a number of incredible feats, including one fingered push ups, the one-inch punch and the ability to land a blow from five feet within 0.05 seconds*.
Now, in collaboration with his daughter Shannon, chief executive officer of the Bruce Lee Foundation, Marcy has unveiled the new Signature and Dragon ranges designed to remain true to the spirit of Bruce Lee’s original exercise programmes.

“Each product has been designed to replicate products used by Bruce Lee or that would have been used had they been around at the time to ensure the legend lives on.” The Olympic bench from the Dragon range typifies what Marcy is trying to achieve with the Bruce Lee name. Providing the ultimate in comfort, stability and versatility, it is engineered using 75mm square tubing from heavy-duty 14 gauge steel and features club-style uprights and chromed safety catches. Boasting a patented linkage system the bench can pivot forwards and backwards, allowing the user to complete a full barbell and dumbbell workout, whilst the multi-adjustable seat and backrest places the body in the correct ergonomic position for all upper and lower body exercises.
The Signature range features the mid-sized bench. This complete free weight resistance training system is comparable to those found in clubs and gyms in terms of features and build quality but provides the user with even more options.
It features an adjustable, multi-position back pad for isolating chest muscle groups along with angled uprights, adjustable height bar and safety
