Canterbury launches Mercury Compression
Canterbury of New Zealand has launched the Mercury Compression range to improve athletic performance.
C
anterbury of New Zealand’s new Mercury Compression baselayer range offers a number of suggested benefits for sportsmen and women before, during and after activity.
Certain Mercury Compression garments feature graduated compression zones to aid circulation and higher venous return, resulting in faster removal of lactic acid, improved warm-up time and the ability to train harder for longer. Canterbury also
suggests that enhanced proprioception and muscular awareness promote a positive response to feedback within an isolated training environment.
The constant compression applied by other Mercury Compression garments is said to reduce muscle oscillation by up to 50 per cent, resulting in decreased energy expenditure linked to improved mean power output, muscle endurance and strength. Enhanced garment fit and freedom of movement obtained from Lycra sport fabric provide comfort in demanding physical environments.
Following intense exercise, Mercury Compression is said to reduce muscles soreness and delayed onset muscle soreness by up to 30 per cent, which is associated with reduced swelling, improved recovery and a quicker

return to training. The use of Lycra sport fabric improves shape retention of the garments, maintaining greater levels of compression for prolonged periods of time.
Graduated compression applies to hybrid legging and long sleeve garments in the range, including the Mercury Hybrid Compression legging and Mercury Hybrid Compression long sleeve top.
Legging garments provide graduated higher levels of compression in the lower leg from below the knee to the ankle. They are made
from 74.5 per cent
polyester Coolmax and 25.5 per cent Lycra. A reduced number of flat seams reduce chafing and provide maximum comfort and enhanced compressive
value, according to Canterbury. The long sleeve top features similar characteristics, with graduated higher levels of compression in the lower sleeve from the wrist to the elbow and moisture control and antibacterial properties. In addition, mesh panels fitted to the back and underarms of the garment improve ventilation.
Mercury Compression garments offering constant compression include the Mercury Stability Compression short sleeve top and
Mercury Stability Compression shorts.
Both are
designed to give constant
compression for enhanced muscle stability, and are made with the 74.5/25.5 per cent Coolmax/Lycra mix. Both have an antibacterial finish and feature moisture control, while the shorts are finished
with a knitted waistband for comfort and the short sleeve top has mesh panels for ventilation.
Mercury Compression tech spec:
