Foundation (REF) and has recently published a report entitled The Green Mirage through the Civitas group in which he claims that EU green energy policies are predicted to destroy tens of thousands of British jobs.

The methods used to calculate such dire portends of doom appear to be very much based on results from the past and fails to outline future changes in technology and opportunities that would provide a more realistic measure. The report also suggests that governments are seeking renewable opportunities from an economic basis and fails to acknowledge the social and ecological basis for

the pursuit of renewable energies. Despite the credentials of those involved in the REF, an enormous amount of assumption seemed to go into the report suggesting the report was as big a mirage as its title. Although the underlying issues are readily available the report and organisation had enough presence to warrant a response from most renewable quarters challenging the findings and expected outcomes.

One notable issue was the focus on the report outcomes that were based on EU policies and regulations, failing to take into account the benefits of policies and subsidies at a national and local level which will obviously change any figures derived from an EU focus.

The mirage of the industry association

A recent publication by the director of policy and research of the Renewable Energy Foundation has created concern amongst renewable energy companies by claiming that the UK government programme of green policies will in fact cost the country jobs and provide a negative overall benefit. David Ridsdale reports on how misinformation created by such reports only clouds the overall renewable policy agenda.
