an a hospital have a radiology department with no radiologists? Several years ago, this

would have been a meaningless question because there were plenty of radiologists to go around. In fact, during the mid 1990s when managed care was at its peak, some radiologists had to scramble to find jobs. Things change. Over the past two

THE EVOLUTION OF DISTRIBUTED DIAGNOSIS – TELERADIOLOGY Advancing imaging trends are pointing to teleradiology solutions for imaging and diagnostics management:  The demand for imaging procedures is currently outpacing the number of radiologists by 3:1. Demand will continue to increase, especially as the baby boomer population grows older and will undoubtedly require more imaging procedures.

 50 % of radiologists are >50 years old. However, reaching retirement age no longer means radiologists have to choose between full-time employment at the practice or full-time retirement. Teleradiology technology makes it possible for radiologists to remain in the workforce longer. These radiologists can spend more time with family or pursue other interests without committing to full retirement because they can work as many or as little hours as they want to, from wherever they choose to live.
