EI Corporation has completed initial develop- ment of a waterborne self-healing coating, MEND-MW. The self-healing capability

reduces end-user costs by minimizing the need for repairing and repainting damaged surfaces, extends the service life of the structure to which it is applied, and maintains the finish of the original painted sur- face. A coating that repairs itself benefits OEMs and end-users alike.

Surface scratches and marring in a coating lead to damage on a macroscopic scale, resulting in the coa- ting losing its aesthetic and protective functions. The patent pending, self-healing coating can heal both minor and deep scratches once it is mildly heated. Nanomyte®

MEND-MW is one of the spin-off pro- MEND, which is a broader

self-healing technology platform developed by NEI Corporation that can be used to impart self-healing characteristics to polymer coatings.

eoPhotonics Corporation (NYSE: NPTN) announced sample availability of its first exten-

ded reach “XG PON1” transceiver module for 10G PON applications in an XFP form factor. The compa- ny also today announced that it has tripled capacity for its current OLT transceivers over the last year to help satisfy demand from Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployments in Asia and North America.

The new pluggable transceiver increases the link budget from 29 dB (ITU-T G987.2 Class N1) to 31 dB (ITU-T G987.2 Class N2), and is designed to sup- port network overlay of 10G XG-PON1 over existing Class B+ GPON networks (28dB link budget).

“We are excited to announce our enhanced per- formance NG PON OLT transceiver module for the emerging 10G PON networks that require backward compatibility with existing 1G PON networks,” said Tim Jenks, Chairman and CEO of NeoPhotonics. “We have provided samples to customers as they are starting initial deployments of 10G PON networks.

The new NeoPhotonics product is designed for operation in 10G PON overlays on Class B+ GPON networks, thus allowing carriers to leverage invest- ments in existing infrastructure while upgrading their fiber optic broadband access networks from 1.25G and 2.5G data rates to 10G data rates. The new Class N2 XG-PON1 OLT module is now available in sample quantities.
