ON THE FLOOR
THE ELECTRIC BRIXTON, LONDON, UK
Shock the circuit! Formerly The Fridge, Electric Brixton will open its doors this month to send a shock to the bollocks of South London’s club circuit…
BRIXTON’S The Fridge has come along way since opening its doors in 1981, displaying beaten up iceboxes and fake dead cats hanging from the ceiling.
First off, it’s no longer called The Fridge. Opening for a live launch on Tuesday 20th September with Hard Fi, and for a Grand Opening on Saturday 24th with Felix Da Housecat, DJ Hell, Hannah Holland and JoJo De Freq on the line-up, the venue will open its doors as Electric Brixton.
Secondly, the bars, toilets, floors and ceilings have all been replaced, as have the sound and lighting systems in both the main and second room. But that’s not to say the venue has been
totally overhauled, completely doing away with the original features of this venue imbued with deeply engrained musical heritage from its former life as the beating heart of the New Romantic movement, playing host to live sets from the likes of The Eurythmics and The Pet Boys during the ‘80s.
With planned residencies including bass night Spectrum, Get Loaded and a new night Turn it On (with Gilles Peterson and Kissy Sell Out), Brixton’s new 1,700-capacity party emporium is all about medium- large room diversity in one of London’s most sought after cultural hotspots.
