and cannula remain in the safe zones previously marked. Repeat this same technique for all supraperisoteal injections.
Subdermal in this example, a 27 gauge cannula will be used. Anaesthetise the skin as described above (Figure 4a). Puncture the skin at a 30° angle with a 25 gauge needle; stop when the subdermal plane is reached and flatten the angle of the needle. Move the needle left and right a little and scrape the undersurface of the dermis (bevel up) while withdrawing the needle (Figure 4b). This helps to create a good entry point for the cannula, especially when using a fan technique at the subdermal level. insert the cannula with the Radiesse syringe attached, advance slowly in the subdermal plane, while stretching the skin out with the non-dominant hand (Figure 4c). To ascertain whether the cannula is at the correct depth once inserted, pull the cannula up against the dermis; the outline of the cannula should be discernible, though not distinctly (Figure 4d). if the cannula cannot be pulled up, then it is certainly too deep. if resistance is felt as the cannula passes through the tissues, then hold the syringe between thumb and forefinger like a pencil and roll gently while advancing the cannula. it is important when pushing through the more fibrous tissue that the depth is checked to be correct, before forcing through tissues. The product should be released in a retrograde fashion, leaving approximately 0.1–0.2 ml per strand. for the advanced injector, antegrade injection is also
possible with a cannula, since intravascular injection is very unlikely owing to the cannula’s blunt, sealed end and side outlet for product release.
