There’s a wave of youthful misty-eyed producers mining ‘90s house and techno records for samples, but this week we’re celebrating one of the men who was there carving out his own distinctive sound while they were still an itch in their dad’s ballbag. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in the US of A, but now living in Berlin, Dan Curtin’s nine albums and 70 plus singles since his fi rst release in 1992 have seen him grace the catalogues of esteemed labels like Peacefrog, Strictly Rhythm,
Klang Elektronik and Soma, both under his own name and as Purveyors Of Fine Funk, while his latest album and single ‘A Study in You’ recently dropped on modern day movers Mobilee. There’s none of the latest fads in his chart. What you do get is a rich taste of Detroit-fl avoured grooves and classic Chicago fl avours, from the Hector Morales remix of DJ Sneak’s jackin’ ‘Tribal Sexy’ to Moodymann’s timeless mix of Rick Wilhlite’s ‘Drum Pattern & Memories’.
