If you plan to live a more simple retirement, for instance at your paid-off cabin on the lake, you might need a WRR much lower than 70 percent of your preretirement income. Further, re- tirees tend to require more money in their active retirement years, say until age 79, and less in their quieter retirement years. There are two methods financial planners use to calculate the WRR for their clients: the income replace- ment (or top-down) and the budget- ing (or bottom-up) approaches.
