days. On the third day, their objec- tive in sight, two battalions of the 65th Regiment fi xed bayonets and charged directly into the enemy po- sitions, forcing the Chinese to fl ee. During that action, the regiment captured more than 2,000 enemy soldiers and killed 5,905.

Numerous awards There was much more combat to come. Over the course of the Ko- rean War, the 65th Infantry Regi- ment participated in nine major campaigns, earning a Presidential Unit Citation, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, and two Republic of Korea Unit Citations. Individ- ual members earned four Distin- guished Service Crosses and 124 Silver Stars. There were many heroes among the Borinqueneers, like Army Master Sgt. Pedro Rodriguez, who joined the regiment in 1934 at age 22. He saw little action during World War II but more than made up for it during the Korean War, in which he
