ITT EDUCATION & TRAINING
HIGH-LEVEL TALKS ON SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
The Institute recently hosted the second of two seminars which brought together senior academics with senior travel industry practitioners to discuss research on a contemporary theme. This time the theme was sustainability.
The research discussed at the event was wide-ranging drawing on work undertaken by academics from the Universities of Cardiff, Leeds Metropolitan, Oxford Brookes and Surrey. The senior practitioners present were: Jane Ashton, Head of Sustainable Development, TUI Travel PLC; Steven Freudmann, Chairman, Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT); Mike Greenacre, Managing Director, The Co-operative Travel; Richard Tobias, Chairman, Best Loved Hotels and Claire Steiner, Chair, ITT Education and Training Committee.
Commenting on the value of the session, Steven Freudmann said: “The more I participate in activities that bridge the gap between industry and academics, the more convinced I am of their value. We now need to try and build on what has been achieved so far.”
The event was held at Imperial College, London, and was part of an ESRC funded Follow-on project (Engaging business elites in tourism) led by Professor Rhodri Thomas.
