Molding Technologies Produce Air-Worthy Jet Fuel Pump
Cast Component: Main housing for a fuel pump. Material: Aluminum C355. Process: Low pressure casting.
Casting Supplier: Wolverine Bronze, Roseville, Mich.
• A customer needed a dependable, nearly error-free casting for the main housing of a fuel pump for a com- mercial aircraft. So, the supplier used patternless rapid prototype molding technology for a detailed design for the casting mold. It was able to produce thin cross sec- tions down to 0.078 in. (2mm).
• The supplier also used its low-pressure aluminum cast- ing process to build a mold that would create as little turbulence as possible during pouring, allowing for a sounder casting of 12 x 12 x 12 in. and 25 lbs.
