NEWCAST Breaks Records, Announces Casting Design Awards NEWCAST, the portion of the
international metalcasting trade fair GIFA directed toward buyers and designers of castings, reported that its recent event was the largest in its history. The event, held June 28 to July 2 in
Dusseldorf, Germany, together with GIFA, METEC and THERMPROCESS, hosted 1,958 exhibitors and 79,000 visitors from 83 countries. Accord- ing to event host Messe Dusseldorf, more than 54% of visitors traveled from abroad, 98% of visitors voiced great satisfaction with the event, and 97% said the aim of their visit was fulfilled. “I was there to see what is available
for casting products, not just equip- ment,” said Ric Woldow, a procure- ment manager for Caterpillar, Peoria, Ill. “We’re an international company. For my product line, we make it in the Americas, as well as in China. I was quite impressed [with NEWCAST]. I was there four years ago, and it was a fraction of what it was this year. The whole show was good.” According to Gotthard Wolf, general
manager of the German Foundry Asso- ciation, metalcasters exhibited numer- ous technical innovations and a high propensity to invest internationally at GIFA and NEWCAST. To honor some of the companies
engaged in that innovation, the NEW- CAST Award was presented by Messe Dusseldorf, the German Foundry Association and the German Found- rymens Society for the second time. The award was given to innovative castings illustrating the advantages of the process over other manufacturing methods in an outstanding manner in three categories: best functional inte- gration, best substitution of another manufacturing process, and best tech- nical solution pushing the envelope in casting technology. During the awards ceremony on
June 29, the awards were given to Gebr. Kemper GmbH & Co. KG, Olpe, Germany, for a sand cast gun-metal body for a differential-pressure con- trolled water softener, DGS Druckguss Systeme AG, St. Gallen, Switzerland,
