LARGER publishers may be focusing on the battlegrounds of today, but Lace Mamba Global recognises that there’s still strong demand for World War II shooters. Catering to this need, the firm is releasing Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, an FPS that puts players in the military boots of both Russian and German soldiers during some of the conflict’s pivotal battles. The main campaign focuses on the Battle of Stalingrad, and the surrounding operations that took place from July 1942 to February 1943. Players will experience the action from both sides, providing a detailed account of this period.

THAT’S UNREAL

Locations and weapons have been painstakingly recreated using Unreal Engine 3, while accurate bullet penetration, a cover system

and first-person tank levels make the title immersive.

As well as mastering the main campaign, there’s a multiplayer mode available to players. Stat tracking shows them their strengths and weaknesses so they can hone their skills over time. “The original Red Orchestrais still a big success on the retail side,” says head of PR and marketing Claas Wolter. “And Red Orchestra 2already receives the highest praise from journalists all over the world. The US version of PC Gamerran a piece stating that “Red Orchestra 2will beat Call of Duty: Black Ops”, so we’re looking forward to a great PC FPS experience here.” Lace Mamba Global will be promoting the game with a print and online campaign, led by ads in Edge, PC Gamer and GamesTM.

SONY’S alternate history FPS Resistance: Fall of Manwas one of the biggest launch titles for the PS3 and the series has remained a flagship franchise for the console ever since.

The third instalment arrives in the

UK on September 9th but there’s still time for users who have yet to play the first two titles to catch up – something made far easier with the latest Sony double pack.

BOX CLEVER Continuing the platform holder’s new strategy of bundling two PS3 hits into a single box, the Resistancecompilation features the 2007 hit Fall of Manand the 2008 sequel Resistance 2. It joins other Sony PS3 compilations – Unchartedand Ratchet & Clank. In the first ResistanceFPS, players must save a 1951 England

from alien hordes of the Chimera. Having invaded from the Channel, these monsters have forced the survivors to hide in the northern reaches of the UK and only the combined might of the British and US armies can fend them off. Unfortunately, by the events of Resistance 2the Chimera have managed to conquer the UK and the rest of Europe. Gamers now take on the role of an American soldier, fighting to defend major US cities in 1953.

Resistance: Fall of Manwas the first PS3 title to sell over 1m units and has a Metacritic score of 86. Resistance 2has a slightly higher score of 87. With Resistance 3around the

corner, expect this pack to perform well as newcomers bring themselves up to speed and fans relive earlier entries in this popular FPS series.
