Highland
Set on a hill overlooking the city, the Highland has hilly, tree-lined streets and an eclectic mix of housing. Residents like the unique feeling of living far away from the city’s hubbub while still being a quick bike or scooter ride to the heart of Downtown. In recent years, this thriving area has become the place to be for young urbanites wanting to own homes close to Downtown. There’s a little bit of everything from block to block, creating the neighborhood’s old-world charm. Highland is also characterized by its rich ethnic history (the reason why it has the best Italian and Mexican restaurants) and diverse age demographics. The area has unique commercial districts with locally owned art galleries, chic restaurants, and a variety of hip boutiques selling everything from flowers to gourmet chocolates. On a warm afternoon, the neighborhood is alive with shoppers, coffee sippers and workers enjoying their lunchtime.
Housing
Highland offers a wide range of homes including row houses, duplexes, grand Victorians, Queen Anne mansions and post WW II era single family homes. The neighborhood is constantly changing with new shops and restaurants opening all the time. A slew of new apartment communities and townhome projects are currently under construction.
