asHlandCItY, tEnn.— actor and environ- mentalist Ed Begley Jr. was a featured keynote speaker at solaR 2011 in Raleigh, n.C., on May 21. When it comes to taking personal responsibility for the en-
vironment, few individuals can match Be- gley’s efforts. Known for turning up at Hollywood events on his bicycle, he has served as chairman of the Environmen- tal Media association and the santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. He serves on the boards of many organizations, in- cluding the thoreau Institute and the Mid- night Mission.
Begley’s keynote presentation, “live simply so that others can simply live,”
was an inspirational look into the state of the environment as Begley told how he
began his 40-year eco-journey in 1970. It included humorous stories about his first electric car and his first attempt at composting. Begley also offered advice on how to save money by living green as
well as on the small changes we can each make to create a big impact. as Begley put it, “start with the little things: You don’t ‘run’ up Mt. Everest!” Begley was also available at the a. o. smith booth to greet

IndIanapolIs— Frederick l. Munds Jr., 83, of Indianapo- lis, passed away March 16. Munds began his career with noland Co. in Washington,
d.C., later relocating to Indianapolis as a manufacturers’ representative at the request of Zurn Industries. He oper- ated independently until 1974 when he and Joe Q. pindell joined forces to form p-M & associates Inc. Munds spent the next 22 years building an extremely
successful agency through hard work, dedication and the establishment of relationships with premier manufactur- ers in the industry. He was active in Boy scouts and was a recipient of the silver Beaver award. He was also ac- tive in the Episcopal Church of the nativity and story- telling arts of Indiana.
