APP REVIEW

APP NAME : SAMPLER DEVELOPER : BINARY BLEEPS FORMAT : PRICE :

IPHONE/IPAD/ITOUCH £1.79

Binary Bleeps Sampler is described as an instrument with audio capture and motion-controlled effects. You can record from the microphone, paste audio from other apps, or use the onboard sounds within the board of nine velocity-sensitive trigger pads. The effects are controlled with the help of your device’s gyroscope and adjusted by moving the device around.

Performances can be recorded, and any session samples are saveable for later use. The effects included are a real-time pitch shifter, a resonant lowpass filter, a feedback delay and a lo-fi bit crusher, all of which can be activated simultaneously.

The app is very simple to use, and a good source of fun when setting up your own instrument with vocal samples, or finger taps, or anything around you that makes a sound. Our favourite sample board included some mug drums (with pens as drumsticks). Sampler is lots of fun, though not really of a benchmark standard for any serious mobile setup – it’s fine, for theprice.

VERDICT 7/10
