INTERNATIONAL CODE COUNCIL
Building with Boise Cascade Means Building Green
Builders, architects and homeowners in search of sustainable construction materials can turn to Boise Cascade with confidence. The engineered wood products manufacturer recently earned a Sustainable Attributes Verification Evaluation (SAVE) Report from ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES). The SAVE program verifies manufacturers’ claims about the environmental sustainability of their products, and how they may meet codes and standards and qualify for points under the major green building rating systems.

“We are receiving an increasing number of inquiries about how Boise Cascade’s products fit into the green building movement,” said Gary Dunn, Boise Cascade Senior Engineering Manager. “The SAVE report from ICC-ES gives us a single source to share with people that answers their questions.”

Boise Cascade’s full selection of structural wood products received a Verification of Attributes Report (VAR-1017) from ICC-ES. Boise Cascade’s VAR is the first issued by ICC-ES to include evaluation to the International Green Construction Code – Public Version 2.0 (IGCC) and the 2010 California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen). The VAR also includes compliance eligibility with these other green building guidelines: National Green Building Standard (ICC 700-2008) which was developed by NAHB and ICC, LEED for Homes 2008, LEED 2009 for New Construction and Major Renovations, LEED 2009 for Schools, New Construction and Major Renovations; LEED for Core and Shell 2009, LEED for Commercial Interiors 2009, LEED for Existing Buildings 2008, ANSI/GBI Green Building Assessment Protocol for Commercial Construction, and ANSI/ASHRAE/USGBC/IES Standard 189.1-2009 – Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings, Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings.

The Boise Cascade products were also determined to meet several ICC-ES environmental guidelines, including bio-based material content, regionally sourced or manufactured materials, formaldehyde emissions and certified wood content. The products included in the VAR are BCI Wood I-Joists; ALL Joist Wood I-Joists; VERSA-LAM, VERSA-STUD and VERSA-RIM Laminated Veneer Lumber, and BOISE GLULAM Beams. The VAR also includes evaluation of Boise Cascade Software Solutions, software that assists designers and builders in optimizing cut packages and designs as well as customizing designs to identify the exact amount of products needed, thereby minimizing on-site waste.
