he Indianapolis Star’s Salute to Nurses program honors those who consider nursing their calling as well as their
profession. The ninth annual awards luncheon was held Wednesday, April 27, at the JW Marriott hotel in Indianapolis. More than 700 attendees celebrated the nursing profession and honored this year’s six award recipients. Winners were nominated by colleagues, family members and friends, and each exemplifies what it means to be a nurse. This year’s winners are Paula Curran, RN, Eagle Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center, Lifetime of Compassion; Debbie Bennett, RN, Tipton Hospital, Nurse Educator of the Year; Kacie Davis, RN, and Aubree Dell, RN, Nehemiah Vision Ministries, Haiti, Inspiration; Paula Reiss, RN, IU Health Methodist Hospital, Advancement in Nursing and Nancy Keefe, RN, Marion County Health Department, Community Outreach. From all the winners, Paula Curran was selected as Nurse of the Year. Honorable mention awards went to additional nominees, one of whom was chosen to receive a scholarship.
