recycled shells all but complete for the season, members and volunteers will soon get to see their efforts from the winter create and restore vital marine habitat. Along with warm weather, summer brings the actual reef building component of CCA SC’s Topwater Action Campaign. Utilizing the oyster boats we donated, CCA SC volunteers will begin to transport and place those shells back into the marine environ- ment to establish new oyster beds and fishery habitat. “Now is when all the work of col- lecting shells in the winter will begin to pay off,” said Gary Keisler, CCA Topwater Action Campaign coordina- tor “It’s also the most enjoyable part of this on-going project as well.” These events are an exciting way to enjoy getting your hands dirty and doing something to benefit South Carolina’s marine resources, which in turn has a direct impact on our mem- bers’ love of recreational angling. It’s also a great opportunity for moms and dads to spend time with the kids doing some physical activity.
