GD: A recent developments is the foreclosure of Habana Plaza which is now listed as the temporary housing for City Hall. It’s surfacing that keeping or purchasing that property would save the city tremendous amounts of funds. Would that assumption be correct? TJ City Manager [Jim Scholl] has done a great deal of research. In fact, he’s the one that did the re- search that brought us over on a temporary basis. Scholl made the statement that this would not be a permanent site for City Hall for a number of reasons, and I think probably as we do our research they are going to come out. We actually evaluated a similar site. One of the sites that we took a look at before we approved Angela Street was a Kennedy Street site, and it was ruled out basically because the elevations and the potential for flooding.
GD I definitely understand that because Habana Plaza did suffer two to three feet of water during Hurricane Wilma, which means it definitely is susceptible if an occasion like that happens again. We will look to see how the evaluations continue. We had Mayor Craig Cates in the radio studio last week and apparently the commission has instructed City Assistant Manager Mark Finnegan to put out a spreadsheet and try to list and accumulate all

the information data so you could run through a spreadsheet and say “this is positive, this is negative” helping not only commissioners, mayor, and city manager but us as citizens in comprehending the reason our elected officials finally settled on this location. Tis is what the estimated costs will be, and this will be the completion date. TJ I think the complication there is the fact that architect Michael Ingram has increased the costs to Angela Street to $2.5 million, so it’s now around $21 million for a three-bay fire station, parking facil- ity and a city hall. I think what the real challenge is, particularly for Mark, is for him to estimate what the restoration and renovation costs would be for Glen Archer School, if we chose that path, when we could not start until June 2012. Tat’s a real challenge to try and project out what restoration costs are going to be two-and-a-half years down the road.
