Face to Face “Let the non-public schools figure out how to either provide
or contract transportation. I sure don’t want my tax dollars going to provide a kid a free ride to a private school. Tough, if the private school paid the district to provide busing, that’s one thing, and [this] was common anywhere I went to school.”
Safety Vision announced on March 15
that it acquired ICOP Digital Inc. Bruce Smith, CEO of Safety Vision, said the change in ownership will increase the company’s integration into the law en- forcement segment of its business with “a robust, proven technology platform and a great customer base.”
Tomas Built Buses announced on
March 23 that it had become the first school bus manufacturer to achieve “Zero-Waste-to-Landfill” status, a volun- tary pledge to essentially recycle or reuse everything received or produced in the plant so that no waste is sent on to the garbage dump. Te initiative to reduce the manufac-
turing carbon footprint was originally launched by parent company Daimler AG. Each employee at Tomas then had a hand in realizing this goal. From 2008 to 2010, the company nearly doubled its recy- cling of wood and nearly tripled its paper recycling. During the same time frame, Tomas had been focused on reducing water consumption and decreasing its energy use overall. Tomas is also provid- ing the land to support 1,690 solar panels owned and operated by Duke Energy. Te Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Field project is ex- pected to produce 389 kw of renewable energy for the Duke Energy power grid, enough to power 41 local homes.
Durham School Services donated
