Beat the credit crunch, whilst reducing impact on the environment

With utility bills rising and the cost of living at its highest for decades, cost- effective management of premises, whether that be office space, warehouse facilities, storage or even homes, is increasingly important.

There is also tightening legislation and guidelines to meet, as the government and local authorities work hard to limit negative impacts on the environment, as well as reducing UK energy use and carbon emissions – 50% of which is entirely down to building consumption.

Energy Performing Certificates (EPCs) are required wherever apartments, houses and buildings are sold or rented. Large public buildings have to display their EPC’s publicly and by law air conditioning

systems need to be inspected regularly. It is therefore significant that Gemini Data Loggers has launched a new Current Clamp Logger, to be used with their Tinytag range of temperature and humidity data loggers, in a bid to help users keep utility bills to a minimum by identifying opportunities for energy saving, in all types of applications, and tackle the effects on the environment. The logger with 0-200A AC Current Clamp monitors power consumption trends, for instance if an office air conditioning unit has been left on during the weekend. It can also identify power- hungry devices so savings can be made. It can analyse if any changes in the environment are cost-effective, for example, if a recently serviced boiler has increased its efficiency or if a group of computers turned completely off, instead of in stand-by mode, makes a significant difference to energy consumption. The Current Clamp Logger can also help Facilities Managers, landlords and home-owners choose the most

cost-effective electricity supplier. Tinytag Current Clamp Loggers are compact, rugged and economical. They work in conjunction with Tinytag stand- alone or wireless temperature and humidity loggers and have been successfully used for monitoring heating and cooling systems.

In order to meet the existing and new laws and guidelines, it is also extremely important that you keep records of your data and that the information provided is displayed in an easy-to-understand format. The Tinytag Explorer software, used with all Tinytag data loggers, allows the user to specify certain logging intervals, dates and times and easily create exportable graphs, charts and tables so that reports are accurate and reliable. The Current Clamp Logger and Tinytag temperature and humidity recorders are therefore ideal to help reduce your utility bills and impact on the surrounding environment.

Potters Heron Hotel safeguards its power supply with Powercall

Potters Heron Hotel, part of Pebble Hotels, has contracted with the shentongroup’s unique emergency generator service, Powercall, to provide ‘power within the hour’ as part of its emergency and business continuity planning. Overcoming the challenges associated with a permanently installed standby generator such as insufficient space, capital expenditure and ongoing maintenance, Potters Heron Hotel now has a cost effective, guaranteed solution to prolonged powercuts.

“We had a small generator but that only provided backup power to the lighting”, said Chris Bailey, General Manager of Potters Heron Hotel. “The major powercut focused our minds on the need for additional power support as it not only caused distruption but also resulted in a battle with the insurance company regarding loss of earnings and freezer failure. A larger generator would have required a large financial outlay, maintenance and recabling whereas the Powercall solution is extremely cost effective and we have the peace of mind
